The Indian Railways has given the green light to infrastructure projects worth Rs 675 crore in West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, aimed at bolstering railway infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and supporting passenger and freight movement nationwide.

BCCL's anticipated movement of 45 rakes per day will be complemented The existing railway network operates at approximately 71% capacity, underscoring the need for modernisation.

The project involves replacing outdated Panel Interlocking systems with modern Electronic Interlocking (EI) technology at these stations. This upgrade will significantly strengthen signalling infrastructure across the division and facilitate the implementation of Kavach, India's indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system.

"Electronic Interlocking offers higher reliability, quicker fault detection, easier maintenance, and greater flexibility in train operations," according to Railways officials. The new system will modernise signalling arrangements at identified stations, providing upgraded infrastructure to support ongoing Kavach-related works.
