Narendra Modi called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to move from "endless war" to "end of war" during a bilateral meeting in Bishkek, marking the latest attempt

Four-and-a-half years into the war, Modi has repeatedly raised the issue with Putin, emphasizing that it is crucial for humanity's well-being. "Every day of war sets humanity back, whereas every step taken towards peace fills humanity with new hope and enthusiasm," he said on Monday.

"This is not the era of war," Modi had told Putin in September 2022, highlighting India's commitment to supporting all efforts towards peace. He reiterated this stance during his meeting with Putin on Monday, urging both countries to prioritize dialogue over conflict resolution.

Modi also acknowledged the progress made in bilateral cooperation between India and Russia, including trade and economic ties. "Trade and economic cooperation is showing positive trends overall," said Putin, highlighting a 6% increase in trade turnover in the first half of 2026.

The two leaders discussed various aspects of their relationship, including people-to-people ties, cultural exchanges, and multilateral cooperation. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, including conflicts in West Asia and the Black Sea region.

"We closely coordinate our efforts within the UN, BRICS, G20, and the SCO," said Putin, emphasizing the importance of multilateral cooperation between India and Russia. The two leaders agreed to remain engaged to further strengthen their Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.
