The yet-untitled project has been in development for over a year, with Chandel closely working with Bhansali on the scripting process. Sources close to the production reveal that the writing is complete, and the team is waiting for Bhansali to finish Love & War before moving forward with casting.

Production is planned to take place in the first half of 2027, with the team eager to capitalize on the momentum generated

Ranjan Chandel's collaboration with Bhansali Productions presents an intriguing opportunity for both parties. Chandel is best known for directing JioHotstar's critically acclaimed Grahan, a crime drama series based on Satya Vyas' novel Chaurasi, which explores the complexities of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Jharkhand.

His previous works, such as the romantic action-drama Bamfaad and the award-winning short film Jaan Jigar, showcase his versatility as a director. However, this new project marks a significant departure from his usual genre, with Chandel working closely with Bhansali to craft a historical epic that promises to be a visually stunning and emotionally charged experience.

Chandel's involvement in the project is not without its precedents. He has worked extensively with Anurag Kashyap, serving as an assistant director on Raman Raghav 2.0 and later co-writing Mukkabaaz and Nishaanchi. Additionally, he wrote Neeraj Ghaywan's popular short film Juice before making his directorial debut with Jaan Jigar in 2018.

Meanwhile, Bhansali is currently immersed in shooting the final schedule of Love & War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, and Alia Bhatt, at Royal Palms in Goregaon. Once complete, the same location will be utilized for his production venture Madhubala, which will go on floors in October with Dhurandhar actress Sara Arjun playing the titular role.

His other production, a mythological jungle adventure starring Dhanush, is set to begin production in February 2027.
