Mumbai Police Deny CJP Protest Permission on Gandhi Jayanti

Mumbai Police has denied permission to the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) to hold a protest on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, citing security concerns. According to Abhijeet Dipke, the party's founder, such tactics to suppress citizens' voices are unacceptable.

If the CJP is denied the right to protest, it will launch a Jail Bharo Andolan in Mumbai on Gandhi Jayanti, mirroring the 2026 nationwide protests that drew thousands to Jantar Mantar. There, the CJP had previously held a protest.

As the nationwide protest is set to commence in Mumbai on October 2, the party has issued a stern warning to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, threatening to take to the streets unless he steps down. The CJP has outlined three key demands.

This includes Kumar's resignation and the initiation of criminal proceedings against him. As well as the freezing of the Special Intensive Revision process and the restoration of the January 2025 voter list. This move comes amid growing concerns over the Election Commission's (CEC) handling of the 2023 election law.

With two Election Commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, objecting on record at least 14 times in 10 months to SIR-related decisions taken without their knowledge and glaring gaps in processes, as revealed by The Indian Express investigation.

The CJP's nationwide protest is also a response to the CEC's handling of the voter list. With the party seeking to restore the January 2025 voter list and freeze the Special Intensive Revision process. The party is pushing for a comprehensive overhaul of the Election Commission itself.

Citing the need for greater transparency and accountability in the electoral process. The CJP's demands are non-negotiable, with the party warning of further protests if its demands are not met.

This lack of transparency and accountability has led to widespread criticism of the Election Commission's handling of the 2023 election law.

CJP will reportedly launch a nationwide protest from Mumbai on October 2 if Gyanesh Kumar does not step down as the Chief Election Commissioner. And the CJP is determined to see its demands met.
