BJP MLAs Storm J&K Assembly, Oppose Omar's Statehood Resolution

Chaotic scenes erupted in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Friday as BJP MLAs. Led by Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma. Stormed the well of the House in protest against a statehood resolution moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The resolution, which was introduced on the fourth day of the autumn session, calls for the "immediate and urgent restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir" and was met with fierce opposition from the BJP.

According to Omar Abdullah, the resolution is an in the demand for statehood, which has been a long-standing issue in the region. The chief minister stated that the resolution does not replace or subsume the earlier resolutions passed by the Assembly. However, rather seeks to fulfill the Government of India's commitment to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

Sometimes I hear about getting 'half state' or statehood without law and order. We do not want that. We were promised a full state, and we want that returned, he said.

The BJP opposed the resolution, terming it "anti-national" and raising slogans against the ruling National Conference. Leader of the Opposition Sunil, Sharma stated. that the autonomy resolution was "rejected and torn up" by the BJP and that bringing it back into the House is "controversial and unacceptable".

"We will not tolerate it," Sharma said.

Sharma also questioned the Congress' stand on the resolution, asking whether they are with the pre-1953 position, including Article 370. noting that from Rahul Gandhi to the state chief of Congress here. They should clarify whether they are with this resolution, he said.

Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather intervened, urging the CM to explain his position.

As the ruckus continued between the treasury and opposition benches, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
