Ujjain's Shahi Masjid Portion Removal: Police Crackdown on Social Media Creators

Ujjain Collector Roshan Singh has confirmed that the removal of a portion of the historic Shahi Masjid is being carried out voluntarily. With the consent of the mosque committee.

The move is part of the road-widening work that is set to take place in the city ahead of the upcoming Simhastha 2028 festival.

As authorities investigate the removal, 15 individuals have been taken into custody, with seven prominent social media personalities among those detained. Qazi Khalil Qureshi Rehman, a key figure in the discussions with local authorities, has urged the public to steer clear of the site.

Ujjain's Special Protection Officer Pradeep Sharma has revealed that social media personalities are among those implicated in the ongoing case. The removal of the mosque's affected section is proceeding with the committee's approval. To date, 15 individuals have been detained, and an FIR has been filed against seven individuals, including social media content creators.

Police are actively monitoring social media platforms to curb the dissemination of false information and incendiary content, according to Sharma.

The road-widening work has been necessitated due to the upcoming Simhastha 2028 festival in Ujjain. A part of the Shahi Masjid located at Chhatri Chowk is being voluntarily removed by the community members. People from all religions and communities are cooperating in these development works.

With houses, shops, and religious places falling within the scope of the road widening being removed by their respective community members.

Ujjain Collector Roshan Singh has appealed to people not to respond to rumours and to stay away from the site. The matter of the mosque was resolved through mutual agreement, and there is no need for anyone to visit the site. The police are taking action against those spreading rumours and posting provocative material on social media.

The removal of the affected portion is expected to be completed soon. And the road-widening work is set to be completed ahead of the Simhastha 2028 festival. The police are monitoring the situation closely and are taking necessary steps to ensure public safety.
