Marvel Writers Had to Fight Female Employees Over Hawkeye's Fate

At an Avengers: Endgame Encore Q&A event, Marvel Studios co-writer Stephen McFeely discussed the creative process behind the Soul Stone sacrifice. McFeely noted that the decision was influenced by the need to avoid killing off a principal female character in the MCU. Opting instead for Hawkeye's demise on the planet Vormir.

However, the decision was not without input from female employees at Marvel HQ, who expressed concerns that killing off Hawkeye would undermine Natasha's heroic moment. According to McFeely, these employees shared their concerns with him, prompting a reevaluation of the script.
