Amit Shah Expresses Displeasure Over J&K Resolution, Questions NC Government's Intentions

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, has expressed his discontent over the resolution moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, seeking immediate restoration of full statehood. The resolution, passed on Saturday, has strained relations between the Centre and the UT government, according to Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma.

Sharma, who met Shah on Saturday, stated that the Home Minister had expressed concerns about the resolution, suggesting that the National Conference government may be attempting to "rekindle unrest" in Jammu and Kashmir. Sharma also noted that the Centre would have supported the statehood resolution if it had only focused on statehood.

And that Shah had emphasized the commitment to restoring statehood.

Sharma clarified that the Centre's stance on the resolution was rooted in their efforts to eradicate unrest in Jammu and Kashmir. And that they had asked the National Conference government if they wished to revive such tensions.

Sharma ruled out the possibility of special provisions for Jammu and Kashmir, citing that such provisions are typically reserved for specific tribes. The Opposition leader also objected to the reference of the autonomy resolution. Arguing that it was based on Muslim sub-nationalism and the desire for a state within a state.

Sharma highlighted the concerns surrounding the autonomy provision in the resolution, warning that it would strengthen separatism and give rise to terrorism. He urged the National Conference government to consider the potential consequences of such a move.

Sharma emphasized the need for a strict provision in the Constitution to prevent similar situations in the future. He also called for swift action to be taken against the introduction of the resolution in the House. Suggesting that the Speaker should resign if they had made a mistake.
