Blizzard has confirmed that Diablo 4 seasons will continue even after the launch of Diablo 5. Citing the importance of community engagement and support for the game.
According to game director Brent Gibson, the decision to continue supporting seasons is based on the game's community showing up and playing, similar to the approach taken by Diablo 2 and 3.
"We are planning on supporting seasons as long as the community continues to show up for D4," Gibson told Icy Veins. "Similar to what we have in D2 and D3. There are still people who play those games.

With the surprise announcement of Diablo 5 at BlizzCon 2026, some fans of the series are left with a bittersweet feeling. The new game is expected to be the darkest entry in the series since OG Diablo. However, what does that mean for Diablo 4, which is only three years old?
Gibson's comments come as Diablo 2 and 3's seasonal structures have been a subject of discussion among fans and critics. While the games are still active, they are largely on maintenance mode, with old seasonal themes on a rotating schedule.
The decision to continue supporting seasons has also raised questions about the resources required to maintain two mainline Diablo games with whole new storylines, regions, and items.
"We needed to give him his own game," said project lead, referring to the upcoming Diablo 5. The game's development is seen as a way to give the franchise a fresh start and address the growing demand for new content.
