EC Removes SIR Declaration to Simplify Voter Enrolment

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has removed the Special Instructions Regarding (SIR) declaration added to the statutory voter enrolment form. Form 6, from its ECINET application portal in states where the SIR has concluded.

The declaration, which was introduced on September 26, stated that for non-SIR periods, the Forms applicable as per Rules (the Registration of Electors Rules 1960) would be used.

According to the EC, the decision was taken four days after announcing it on September 26. The declaration was still present for those states where the SIR is still ongoing.

The move is aimed at simplifying the voter enrolment process and reducing confusion among voters. The EC has stated that the removal of the SIR declaration will help in ensuring that the voter enrolment process is carried out in a transparent and fair manner.
