Jaishankar: Global South in Back Row of Decision-Making Amid Global Uncertainty

Indian Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the need for greater solidarity among developing countries of the Global South during a meeting in New York on Tuesday. This highlights the importance of institutions adapting to contemporary power structures.

The gathering, held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, brought together representatives from like-minded nations and friends.

Jaishankar noted that the Global South must be integral to decision-making processes that directly impact their future. And stressed the necessity of Global South countries not accepting or legitimising chokepoints in supply chains, finance, or connectivity. This sentiment echoes concerns raised by Jaishankar in his address to the High-Level Meeting of Like-Minded Global South Countries and Friends.

There, he stated that the meeting is taking place at a time of considerable global uncertainty.
