Teenagers Assaulted in Bihar's Jamui, Police Take Immediate Action

A teenage girl went out on a scooter ride with her friend in Bihar's Jamui around half past six on Saturday evening. The two teens, both school students, headed to a hilly area and took photos of the scenery. According to police officers, the location is about three kilometres from the main road connecting Jamui and Lakhisarai.

The outing turned violent when the pair was surrounded by a group of young men. Who assaulted the boy and molested the girl despite their pleas for mercy. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with police taking swift action to apprehend three accused youths believed to be minors.

The victim did not initially inform her family or anyone else about the incident, according to Dipti Monali, ADG (Law and Order). It was only when videos of the incident went viral that the police took notice and launched an investigation.

Action is being taken to remove the circulating videos from various platforms, as they involve minors and are considered an offence. Police are also investigating whether a patrolling unit should have been present at the location during the incident.

A woman ASI recorded the girl's statement at her residence on Monday morning. The victim had informed her family about the incident on the night of September 20. And her father submitted a written complaint to the police station on September 21.

Dipti Monali, SDPO of Jamui, confirmed that an FIR has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and other relevant laws. Police have identified most of the youths involved in the incident, with three juveniles already apprehended. Raid operations are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects.

SDPO, Monali stated. that the police have constituted a special investigation team under her leadership to investigate the incident. The team is working to gather evidence and build a case against those responsible for the assault and molestation.

The police are also examining the circumstances surrounding the incident. This includes whether there was adequate security presence in the area at the time of the incident.
