Odisha Jailor Arrested for Allegedly Manipulating Records to Frame Colleague

Choudwar jail in Odisha's Cuttack was recently shaken by a prison break that occurred nearly a year ago. Two undertrial prisoners escaped early in the morning, prompting the then jailor to be transferred for dereliction of duty. After several months, the accused were tracked down and arrested again.

A fresh development has now emerged in the case.

Police have taken Roul into custody on charges of forgery committed for the purpose of deception and to cause harm to someone's reputation. As well as forgery of official records. Roul was arrested late Sunday evening following a complaint by Dash.

Who alleged that he had forged her signature in the official records to shift the blame for the jailbreak onto her.

On October 3, 2025, two undertrial prisoners, Raja Sahani and Chandrakant Kumar from Bihar, escaped from Choudwar jail by scaling the boundary wall of the prison – hours after a Dussehra festival celebration on the premises. Both the accused were later arrested months later from outside Odisha.

Dash lodged an FIR against Roul on January 17. Based on which the police registered a case and initiated an investigation into alleged manipulation of the jail’s minute book and entry-exit registers. The Orissa high court had earlier rejected Roul’s anticipatory bail.

Roul failed to turn up for questioning and cooperate with the police when they requested submission of all prison records as part of the investigation. Police officers indicated that the inquiry is ongoing, and additional authorities may be questioned in the days ahead.

The latest arrest has brought new attention to the case, which remains under investigation. The police are working to determine the full extent of Roul's involvement in the forgery and manipulation of prison records. As the inquiry continues, it is unclear what further consequences Roul may face.
