Cheap Bleph Surgery: UK Women Warn of 'Conveyor Belt' Clinics and 'Traumatised' Patients

Nikita Morgan, a 31-year-old from Dublin, Ireland, has spoken out about her experience with cheap blepharoplasty (bleph) surgery, typically carried out abroad. The procedure, which aims to remove excess skin from the eyelid, has been linked to numerous complications. This includes pain, infection, and vision problems.

Faceland, a Dutch company, has performed over 2,950 bleph procedures on UK patients since October 2024. While the company claims to offer "safe and quality" treatments, many patients have reported negative experiences.

Nikita, who underwent the procedure, described her experience as "extremely painful" and likened the clinic's approach to a "conveyor belt", with patients being treated quickly and with minimal aftercare.

Nikita's experience at Faceland's clinic in Düsseldorf was marked by a lack of attention to her post-operative care. She was injected with local anaesthetic but felt intense pain when the doctor began cutting delicate eyelid skin.

Eight days after her surgery, Laura, not her real name, visited A&E four times due to complications with her eyelid wounds. She had attempted to remove her stitches herself, which is a common practice among patients who undergo treatment abroad.

UK surgeons have reported seeing an increase in patients with blepharoplasty complications over the past 12 months. Many of whom have received treatment abroad. The most common issue is patients being unable to close their eyes properly following the procedure.

The British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (Bopss) has expressed concerns about the lack of aftercare for patients who undergo blepharoplasty abroad. A survey of 63 Bopss members found that many patients experience vision problems and headaches due to the procedure.

Nikita regrets her decision to fly on the same day as her surgery and advises others to exercise caution. She believes that closing her eyes during the procedure would have prevented her from experiencing severe eyelid tension.

Faceland has offered Laura £175 as a goodwill gesture, but she has rejected it. The company is currently facing legal action from Laura and is unable to comment on the details of her case.
