SIT Finds No Discrepancies in Ram Temple Donation Handling, Says 105 Cases of Unauthorised Currency Removal

According to a Supreme Court order on Monday, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing into alleged donation theft at the Ram temple in Ayodhya has found "no discrepancies" in the handling of donations received by the temple administration. The SIT, headed by UP IGP Kiran S, submitted its status report on September 16, 2026, stating that it had "duly verified" particular allegations regarding valuable donations reported in the media and on social media.

Following a thorough review by the Special Investigation Team. All parties involved have undergone extensive questioning and their materials scrutinized without finding any discrepancies. The team has also confirmed that records pertaining to nearly 944 kilograms of white metal.

Believed to be silver in origin, are currently being processed for melting.

According to the order, "the statements of 173 witnesses have been recorded as of 14.09.2026", including trust functionaries, accounting personnel, banking officials, security personnel and Chartered Accountants. Two SITs were formed — first by the UP government and another on the orders of the Supreme Court in July — this SIT is currently probing the case.

According to a recent bench ruling, SIT is not subject to the Trust's jurisdiction but rather operates independently under court oversight. An investigation has uncovered 105 instances of unauthorized currency removal or concealment at the Pilgrim Facility Centre (PFC) building. There, CCTV footage and digital data indicate individuals involved in the counting process were assisted by others during these incidents.

The SIT report pointed out that the investigation has proceeded simultaneously on multiple aspects. This includes identification of suspected acts of misappropriation and tracing of the suspected proceeds thereof.
