Indian Railways approves Rs 345 crore projects in Odisha, UP for line doubling and Kavach 4.0 expansion

Indian Railways has approved projects worth Rs 345 crore in Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. Aimed at enhancing rail connectivity and capacity in the regions, particularly in the Energy, Mineral and Cement Corridor.

The Rs 122 crore project in Odisha's Barbil-Bolanikhadan section will play a important step in supporting the expansion of Steel Authority of India Limited's mine and port/plant capacity additions by doubling a 6-kilometer stretch.

The project, under the administrative jurisdiction of South Eastern Railway, will improve rail connectivity for the movement of iron ore to steel plants and ports, thereby strengthening rail capacity as mining, industrial, and port activities expand in the region.

By doubling the line, the project will support the safe movement of trains, reducing the risk of accidents and improving overall operational efficiency.

A Rs 223 crore project for Kavach 4.0 expansion across 614.75 route km of Varanasi Division in Uttar Pradesh aims to prevent capacity constraints in the designated mineral corridor.

Indian Railways has been expanding Kavach 4.0 across its network. With the national transporter recently commissioning the system for the first time on the Malkajgiri-Kamareddi section of the Hyderabad Division of South Central Railway.

The Kavach system will monitor train operations to support safer train movement, enhancing overall safety and efficiency in the rail network.

The expansion of Kavach 4.0 is part of Indian Railways' efforts to improve operational safety and prevent Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD) incidents, which can have severe consequences.

With the Kavach system in place, Indian Railways aims to reduce accidents and improve overall operational efficiency, thereby supporting the growth of industries in the regions.
