Gandhi Slams Modi-Shah System, Alleges Betrayal of Students

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi intensified his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah at a 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' event in Indore. Describing them as key figures in a system that prioritizes blind followers over curious students.

Gandhi accused the administration of being run by Modi and handled by Shah, who is seen as the enforcer. He also targeted National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, alleging control over critical communications channels.

Gandhi alleged that public funds meant for education were being diverted to benefit billionaires. The money earned from contracts involving schools and universities is reportedly channeled into the BJP's marketing efforts and the administration of the system, according to Gandhi.

Gandhi argued that students pose a challenge to this structure because they ask questions. In his view, blind followers often parrot outdated information or ideologies, rather than engaging in critical thinking.

Gandhi presented data showing the decline of public education. When his government was in power in 2014, 4.6 percent of the budget was allocated to education. However, this allocation has been gradually reduced, and now only 2.6 percent of the budget is dedicated to education.

Gandhi also showcased a video about the collapse of a five-storeyed building in Delhi's Satya Niketan on September 6. This highlights the issue of school closures and hostel availability. The family of one of the victims attended the event and interacted with Gandhi.

This points to the need for urgent action.

Indore authorities have cleared the long-stalled 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' initiative after multiple setbacks, paving the way for Gandhi's programme. The event was initially scheduled for September 12 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. However, a Madhya Pradesh High Court ruling had previously barred its use for non-sporting events and state-level government programmes.

This prompted the district administration to deny permission.

As part of his initiative, Gandhi plans to address pressing issues in education, including school closures and hostel availability. His programme aims to engage students and encourage critical thinking, rather than simply parroting outdated information or ideologies.
