The Enforcement Directorate has formally charged EaseMyTrip promoter Nishant Pitti in connection with the alleged Rs 5,000-crore Mahadev online betting app money laundering case. According to officials, Pitti is accused of enabling the movement of illicit betting proceeds into the equity market through a facade of foreign portfolio investments.

Pitti has denied any involvement, stating he was neither informed of the chargesheet nor summoned by the relevant court. This assertion comes as the latest chargesheet, filed on September 10, marks the sixth development in the case. The Mahadev betting app case revolves around an alleged illicit online betting network operating through a complex network of websites and apps.

Investigative agency ED alleges that the proceeds were routed through a sophisticated web of shell entities before being invested or utilized to acquire assets. In its latest submission, the ED revealed it had provisionally attached Pitti's DEMAT shares worth Rs 59.6 crore under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

This attachment order was issued when the ED filed its chargesheet, officials said.

So far, the ED has apprehended 14 individuals and seized assets valued at Rs 1,885 crore. Police officers sources claim the racket remains operational, albeit under different names. The foreign assets are reportedly located in prime areas of Dubai.

Despite the ED's ongoing investigation, officials acknowledge that the racket is still believed to be active, despite claims of its operational shutdown. Pitti has assured cooperation with law enforcement bodies and expressed his commitment to establishing his bona fide conduct through detailed evidence.

The Enforcement Directorate's actions have significant implications for the Indian economy and the nation's financial regulatory framework.

The probe unfolds as the ED continues to scrutinize the illicit activities and their far-reaching consequences. As the case progresses, it remains to be seen how this will shape the country's approach to combating money laundering and illicit financial transactions.
