PM Narendra Modi Launches PRAGATI-50 Initiative to Make 50 Cities Completely Clean

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched the PRAGATI-50 initiative, aimed at making 50 cities across 24 states and UTs completely clean. The selected cities, including state capitals and major tourist destinations, will serve as role models for the rest of the country.

The housing and urban affairs ministry rolled out the programme following PM ModiIt was challenge to the ministry to make 50 cities cleaner during the monthly PRAGATI meeting on May 27. The initiative covers 76 municipal areas, including all municipal areas in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune, Kolkata, and Hyderabad.

The list of identified cities includes Tirupati. Gaya, Patna, Bilaspur, Ahmedabad, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Dharamsala, Srinagar, Ranchi, Mysore, Nashik, Puri, Ludhiana, Udaipur, Coimbatore, Warangal, Ayodhya, Mathura, Varanasi, Haridwar, and Kolkata. These cities have been chosen for their cultural importance, high tourism destinations, and economic centres.

The city cleanliness initiative seeks to deliver tangible results through a multifaceted approach. By establishing a structured framework for solid waste management. Used water management, sanitation, and citizen engagement, the project aims to foster a culture of accountability.

Progress will be evaluated through regular outcome-based assessments and technology-driven monitoring. With the editor overseeing bi-monthly review meetings to track the initiative's advancement.

These cities will emerge as role-model cities by going beyond their routine sanitation work to 'demonstrate sustained. High-performance parameters of visible cleanliness' the minister added.

PM Modi had made these observations while going through a detailed presentation on progress of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 during the monthly PRAGATI meeting.

PM Modi has sought achieving 100% cleanliness in such cities in all aspects. From making them garbage-free to processing all their solid and liquid waste.

The initiative is part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0, which aims to improve the cleanliness and sanitation in urban areas. The programme will be implemented in collaboration with all states to achieve the goal of 100% cleanliness in selected cities.
