Infosys to Shift 100,000 Staff into Specialist Roles Amid AI-Driven Pricing Shift

Infosys, India's second-largest IT services company, is embarking on a strategic shift to navigate the challenges posed by the growing influence of artificial intelligence on its traditional billing models. The company aims to reassign a substantial portion of its workforce.
Equivalent to a quarter to a third of its 320,000-strong workforce, into specialist positions. This move is part of its broader effort to leverage AI-driven productivity and improve delivery models.
The company's CEO-designate Ashiss Kumar Dash and incumbent CEO Salil Parekh recently discussed the importance of generating value from AI during the company's recent Americas Confluence event in Washington, DC. The event highlighted Infosys' strategy to assist enterprises in unlocking AI value and transitioning from experimentation to deployment at scale across organisations.

Infosys is prioritizing outcome-based pricing and a model-agnostic approach as AI-driven productivity continues to reshape delivery models. The company is collaborating with open-weight models for enterprise customers to gain greater control over their data.
According to Dana Daher, executive research leader at HFS Research, Infosys has highlighted its cloud-first, AI-first composable stack, Topaz Fabric, which combines AI agents, services, and models.
Topaz Fabric is now processing a substantial volume of data, with 35 implementations completed and more than 100 underway. The platform routes work across roughly 50 models. Infosys has also fine-tuned some open-weight models for clients seeking more control over their data.

The platform is now packaged in a more accessible format, making it easier to acquire and deploy, according to Daher.
Holger Muller, principal analyst at Silicon Valley-based Constellation Research, notes that Topaz Fabric has onboarded 35 clients. Meanwhile, 118 implementations are in progress, spanning more than 22 business and IT focus areas.
Infosys has reported revenue of $20 billion. With AI-related revenue accounting for 8% of total revenue, amounting to $1.6 billion, in the first quarter. The company is experiencing a double-digit growth rate on a quarter-on-quarter basis.
