Spider-Man: Brand New Day has taken a historic leap to become the third-highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing $2.335 billion in worldwide grosses. The fourth solo Tom Holland Spidey film has now outperformed all Marvel films except one - Avengers: Endgame.

Many speculate that Brand New Day's phenomenal success is due to its early release ahead of Marvel's highly anticipated tentpole, Avengers: Doomsday. However, the makers of the Sony-Marvel joint production firmly believe that Spider-Man has a strong enough brand to stand on its own and may even have helped boost Doomsday's box office prospects.

Shony Panjikaran, General Manager & Head of Sony Pictures Releasing International, India, attributes the film's remarkable run to its exceptional quality. "We didn't have a specific timeline in mind, but we knew we had a wonderful film," he says. "I think Destin, our director, did an outstanding job with this one after No Way Home."

Panjikaran expresses confidence that their goal of making Brand New Day the highest-grossing non-Indian film in India was achievable. However, he denies any connection between Spider-Man's success and the hype surrounding Avengers: Doomsday.

"I don't think we borrowed anything from Doomsday," Panjikaran clarifies. "On the contrary, I believe our film will benefit from the excitement surrounding it. Spider-Man is a massive brand in India, and we saw that firsthand."

Part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Brand New Day stars Tom Holland as Spider-Man, alongside Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. The film follows Peter Parker's journey as he navigates a world that has forgotten him, facing new dangers with the arrival of villains.
