Lumus is taking its partnership with Quanta Computing to the next level as it expands their collaboration to manufacture cutting-edge waveguides for augmented reality (AR) glasses.
The licensing agreement, announced today, sees Lumus and Quanta working together to produce three new geometric waveguides: the Z-30 2.0, A-Lens 30, and A-Lens 50. These next-generation waveguides promise a thinner, lighter optical engine with enhanced brightness and direct prescription lens bonding.

Quanta will handle manufacturing under the agreement, while Lumus maintains control over its latest technology to ensure image quality and efficiency are maintained. The move marks an ongoing trend for Lumus to reduce waveguide weight and thickness in AR glasses, a key challenge in achieving mass production.
"Our relationship with Quanta has always been built around solving the practical challenges of bringing advanced AR optics into mass production," said Ari Grobman, CEO of Lumus. "This agreement allows us to bring our next generation of lower-cost waveguides into manufacturing with a partner that understands both the technology and the production requirements behind it."

The partnership expansion comes as demand for smart glasses continues to rise. Meta's recent announcement of doubling its Ray-Ban Display Glasses production is a notable example, and Lumus' work on reducing weight and thickness in its waveguides is seen as an upgrade to meet this growing market.
