Election Officials Face SIR Notices Over Discrepancies and Name Mismatches

The Election Commission of India has issued notices to several top serving and retired IAS officers. This includes Election Commissioner Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, for discrepancies and name mismatches in the electoral rolls.

A boothwise list of electors has been uploaded by the Election Commission. This will be used to issue notices to those who failed to map themselves with the electoral roll of the last intensive revision or had logical discrepancies in their details.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Principal Scientific Advisor to Prime Minister Ajay Kumar Sood, and several other top officials have received notices for discrepancies and "no mapping".

A total of 593 people have received notices at the New Moti Bagh polling booth under the Delhi Cantt Assembly constituency. The Indian Express reported that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, and New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj are among the 33 lakh electors in the capital who have been named amid the SIR for the issuance of notices to prove their eligibility.

The Election Commission has rolled out the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in 30 states/union territories. Resulting in the deletion of 13 crore names in the draft lists. In West Bengal, 27.16 lakh names were deleted after being flagged by the EC's algorithms.

The SIR process aims to verify the eligibility of electors and ensure that the electoral rolls are accurate. The Election Commission has assured that the notices issued will be used to facilitate the verification process and ensure that all eligible citizens can exercise their right to vote.
