Yemeni government forces backed by Saudi Arabia have launched a major offensive against the Iran-backed Houthi movement. Securing the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The forces, comprising Giants Brigades and National Shield troops, have been besieging Houthi fighters in the Red Sea coastal town of Dhubab, which overlooks the waterway, after taking control of its airport and cutting the road to the port city Mokha.
According to a statement from the Presidential Leadership Council. The forces are poised to execute their assigned missions. In line with the approved plans, with the ultimate goal of liberating the country from the Houthi terrorist militia's grip.

The conflict in Yemen began in 2014, when the Houthis ousted the government from Sanaa. A Saudi-led coalition of Arab states intervened in 2015 to restore the government's rule. The four-year-old informal ceasefire has been in a state of flux since July.
At that time, the Houthis announced a maritime embargo against Saudi Arabia and began launching missile and drone attacks on Saudi airports, oil facilities, and tankers in the Red Sea.
The Saudi-led coalition has reported the destruction of more than 300 high-value targets in strikes supporting the offensive. The Houthis have also launched ballistic missiles and drones at oil sites belonging to Saudi Aramco in Riyadh and the Khurais area of Saudi Arabia in retaliation for dozens of Saudi strikes on their territory.
Humanitarian concerns are mounting, with at least 959 people killed and 5,000 injured in the fighting in Yemen since 6 August. The government's health ministry has reported this toll, while the UN has stated that another 197,000 people have been displaced.
