The Preference Index Study 2026, launched by HDFC Pension, highlights the importance of understanding risk appetite in pension planning. The study reveals that Indians are ageing, with average life expectancy at 78 years. Meanwhile, the average family size has declined to 4.4 members.
This demographic shift has significant implications for pension coverage, with the PFRDA working to increase the number of long-term investors.
The PFRDA has expanded NPS investments to REITs, InvITs, and alternative investment funds, aiming to provide more diversified portfolios for long-term investors. This move is expected to benefit those invested for at least 15 years. As equity exposure can provide a higher return on investment.
