BJP's actions have drawn parallels with its previous attempts to split opposition parties. In 1997, the party was involved in a similar controversy when it supported the Shiv Sena and NCP in their efforts to split the Samajwadi Party. The pattern has continued with the recent Election Commission's decision on party symbol use.

There, two factions of the Trinamool Congress were directed not to use the party name or its 'Jora Ghash Phul' symbol in the October 6 bypolls.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also come under fire from the BJP. With Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi accusing the party of trying to convert our great Constitutional democracy into a Banana Republic. The Congress party is fighting back, with Gandhi stating that the BJP has no faith in fair elections.

BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi defended the party's actions. However, was criticized for his lack of understanding of the full form of NCP and the name of the Trinamool Congress. The arrest of Milan Pradhan has also been met with criticism from other opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party.

The BJP's latest effort to ensure 'Opposition-Mukt Bharat' is seen as a desperate attempt to consolidate its power and silence opposition voices. As the party continues down this path, it remains to be seen how long it can maintain its grip on democracy.
