The Vvaan Review: Fantasy Thriller Falls Flat Despite Promising Premise

The Vvaan, a fantasy horror film directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, had all the ingredients to be a major shift. With a unique blend of Indian culture, mythology, and the Chhath Puja festival, the movie promised to deliver a thrilling ride.

Unfortunately, the film fails to live up to its potential, bogged down by poor editing, cringeworthy comedy, and a lack of focus on its core storyline.

The film's first half is where it shines. Expertly weaving together the threads of Rishi's past, the supernatural elements, and the village setting. The story is engaging, and the characters are well-developed, particularly Tamannaah, who brings an emotional depth to her role as Mamta.

However, the second half takes a nosedive, with choppy editing and a reliance on cheap comedy that quickly becomes tiresome.

Editor Nitin Baid's decision to include too many songs and a lack of focus on the plot's climax are particularly egregious. The film's VFX are average, and the music by Vishal Mishra, Amit Trivedi, Tanishk Bagchi, and Sam C.S. is forgettable.

The cast, including Sidharth Malhotra, Anup Soni, and Sunil Grover, delivers solid performances, but even they can't elevate the film's lackluster script. Pitting Sunil Grover as the antagonist is a smart move, but it's not enough to save the movie from its overall mediocrity.

The Vvaan had the potential to be a standout film, but its failure to execute its unique premise is a disappointment. Despite its intriguing storyline and talented cast, the film ultimately falls flat.
