Inside NIA's Latest Developments: arrests second accused in Manipur IED attack case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a 48-year-old man from Churachandpur in connection with the IED attack on a house in Manipur's Bishnupur district in April. In which two minor children were killed and another person was injured. Thangmang Haokip, the second accused in the case, was arrested on September 25, according to a NIA spokesperson.

He is currently in judicial custody. This comes after his arrest on August 12. Along with S Palal Thadou Kuki, who is also being investigated in connection with the attack.

The case was initially registered at Moirang Police Station. However, was re-registered on April 23 under provisions of the BNS Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend others involved in the conspiracy and to ascertain the larger network behind the attack.

Tragedy struck at the site of the recent incident, claiming the lives of two young victims who were among those injured. Authorities have since discovered an unexploded improvised RPG, which has been safely secured, according to the National Investigation Agency's latest update.

The NIA has also confirmed that the explosive device that was launched from a hillside at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai. Striking the wall of the house and causing serious injuries to three members of a family, was linked to the same attack.

The arrest of Thangmang Haokip has brought some relief to the families of the victims, who were left shaken by the attack. The NIA is working closely with local authorities to ensure that justice is served and that those responsible for the attack are brought to book.
