HAL Delivers 2,000th Aero-Engine as Singh Urges Indigenous Capabilities

India's Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has emphasized the importance of domestic self-sufficiency in the aerospace industry. This highlights the need to bolster indigenous expertise in the crafting of sophisticated aero-engines. Present at the handover of HAL's 2,000th aero-engine at the Koraput division in Sunabeda. Singh observed that advancements in component localisation and streamlined production processes are significantly enhancing the operational readiness and lifespan of vital defence equipment.

Singh highlighted the proposed investment of around Rs 5,000 crore. This will support the indigenisation of raw materials in partnership with Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI) and the establishment of India's first indigenous high-thrust engine testing facility.

HAL's Contribution to Military Aviation
HAL's engines have powered frontline aircraft, including the MiG-21, MiG-27, MiG-29, and Su-30MKI since the unit's establishment in 1964. The defence minister announced that HAL is enhancing annual AL-31FP engine production capacity from 30 to 50 engines annually. With an investment of Rs 335 crore.
India's Defence Minister has unveiled a significant expansion of the country's Shakti engine production, with a proposed investment of Rs 218 crore. This move aims to bolster the nation's propulsion capabilities by fostering a more cohesive ecosystem that unites MSMEs. Start-ups, industry, academia, and research institutions.
