Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated India's commitment to supporting all meaningful efforts towards peace in Ukraine and West Asia. Saying that his country has consistently supported every meaningful effort towards peace. on the safety of shipping in the Black Sea, grain and energy exports and on non-attack possibilities.

India's foreign minister, S Jaishankar, revealed that the nation initiated diplomatic talks with Russia and Ukraine in July. This comes after a surge in attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea. The attacks, which occurred in the same month, resulted in the loss of life and injury to Indian sailors.

Jaishankar highlighted the severity of the situation, stating that such incidents are "unacceptable" in any maritime region, including the Black Sea, Red Sea, and Gulf. Following the incidents, Jaishankar engaged in direct communication with Russian and Ukrainian foreign ministers, prompting a strong protest from India.

The government's swift response was aimed at securing the safety of maritime shipping and the sailors involved. With Jaishankar taking an active role in brokering the initial talks.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has confirmed that India has submitted a multifaceted proposal to bring an end to the conflict. This marked a significant development since the war's inception in February 2022. The proposed agreement would necessitate a ceasefire encompassing not only military operations but also the cessation of attacks on critical energy and port infrastructure.

Modi's statement comes ahead of the upcoming BRICS Summit. There, he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vlodymyr Zelenskyy. The summit is expected to discuss ways to promote peace and stability in the region.
