Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Writes to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Calls for Engagement and Dialogue

Indian separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has written a letter to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Calling for engagement and dialogue as the only way forward in resolving issues. The meeting between Mirwaiz and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the Brics summit came a day after Valley-based political and religious leaders attended an inter-faith conference.

Mirwaizs Letter Pezeshkian Handed Araghchi

Mirwaiz's letter to Pezeshkian was handed over to Araghchi. In which he expressed his solidarity with Iran and called for unity among Muslims irrespective of sectarian divide. The letter also highlighted the importance of dialogue and negotiation in resolving conflicts, citing India's legacy of Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of Ahimsa.

Mirwaiz met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the Brics summit on Saturday night. The meeting was seen as an attempt to strengthen ties between India and Iran. Particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict with the US and Israel.

Araghi Academic But Mirwaiz Described

Araghi is an academic, but Mirwaiz described him as having a great political insight. The two leaders discussed politics, conflict, peace engagement, and dialogue, as well as Mahatma Gandhi's non-violence as a way forward.

In the letter to Pezeshkian, Mirwaiz expressed his solidarity with Iran and called for unity among Muslims irrespective of sectarian divide. He also highlighted the importance of dialogue and negotiation in resolving conflicts, citing India's legacy of Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of Ahimsa.

"This is a time when wisdom, restraint, and statesmanship are needed more than ever," Mirwaiz said in the letter. "Differences, however serious, cannot ultimately be resolved through endless confrontation. War only multiplies human suffering."

Mirwaiz also highlighted the importance of cultural and spiritual interaction between Kashmir and Iran. The two countries have shared centuries of cultural and spiritual interaction. With Persian scholarship, literature, art, and spirituality leaving a deep imprint on Kashmiri civilization.

"Kashmir and Iran have also shared centuries of cultural and spiritual interaction," the letter read. "These are bonds between peoples that have survived changing political circumstances and generations."

Mirwaiz has said that dialogue is indispensable for conflict resolution, citing his own experience in South Asia. The India-Pakistan dispute on Kashmir has strengthened his belief that dialogue is the only way forward.

"Our own experience in South Asia has taught us the painful consequences of prolonged tensions and unresolved differences," Mirwaiz said. "It has also strengthened my conviction that engagement and dialogue are ultimately indispensable."

Mirwaiz has also called on India to play a constructive role in encouraging restraint, engagement, and diplomacy. The letter cited India's legacy of Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of Ahimsa as an example of how the country can promote peace and understanding.

"The grave challenges facing our world cannot be settled through ever-widening wars," Mirwaiz said. "Confrontation will only aggravate them; ultimately they must be addressed through dialogue and negotiation."
