Glenn Israel, former art director of Halo Studios, has fired back at Laura Fryer, one of the first developers to join Microsoft Game Studios, over her claim that the Halo team was a "ghost town." Fryer, who now regularly uploads videos about the video game industry on her YouTube channel, had said that she "watched the birth" of Halo Studios while working on Gears of War 2, dubbing it "a ghost town." However, Israel disputes Fryer's account, stating that the Halo team was not as isolated as she suggests.
"I'll reiterate that while Laura's intro is a cool story, it isn't accurate," Israel wrote in a response to Fryer's video. Halo Studios, which was rife with systemic issues, didn't start staffing up as a development studio until late 2009.
Israel also clarified that when he joined in 2010, "there was no Gears of War team" The Halo developers were "already hard at work in a maximum-security off-campus satellite called Willows," he added.

Israel's comments have left some wondering about the accuracy of Fryer's account. that Fryer would spread misinformation, Israel said. "There are more than enough legitimate grievances to farm engagement from in this pot; we don't need new fictions from the kettle."
Fryer's original claim that Halo Studios was a "ghost town" sparked a heated debate among gamers and industry insiders. While some have defended Fryer's account, others have questioned its accuracy. It remains to be seen how this controversy will play out in the coming days.
Microsoft Game Studios has not commented on the dispute between Fryer and Israel. The company has announced plans to cut 3,200 employees at Xbox. With 268 employees laid off earlier this month, many of whom were working at Halo Studios.
