NSE, the National Stock Exchange, made its debut on rival BSE on Thursday. This marked the first time an exchange has listed on another platform. The ₹22,561.57-crore IPO, valued at around $2.35 billion, is the second-largest in Indian stock-market history, behind only Hyundai Motor India's ₹27,858.75-crore issue in 2024.

The listing comes after a decade-long push to take NSE public. With the company's shares opening at ₹1,800 on the BSE, a 0.84% premium to the issue price of ₹1,785. They climbed as high as ₹1,878, or 5.21% above the issue price, before ending the day at ₹1,818, giving IPO investors a first-day gain of 1.85%.

NSE'It's journey to listing began in 1992, the same year the securities scam associated with Harshad Mehta shook Dalal Street. It was recognised as a stock exchange by Sebi in April 1993 and began operations in 1994.

Comparing NSE's debut to other global IPOs. SpaceX raised a record $75 billion in its base IPO by selling about 555.56 million shares at $135 each. Valuing Elon Musk's space, satellite and AI business at around $1.77 trillion.

Other notable IPOs include Saudi Aramco's $25.60 billion base offering. Alibaba's $21.80 billion original offering, and Agricultural Bank of China's $19.20 billion combined Hong Kong and Shanghai IPO.

India'It's biggest IPOs, including Hyundai Motor India's ₹27,858.75-crore issue, LIC's ₹20,557.23-crore IPO, and Paytm's ₹18,300-crore issue, have seen varying degrees of success on their debut days.

As Antropic, the AI firm behind Claude, makes its stock market debut, the company's long-term strategic vision remains shrouded in uncertainty. According to The Wall Street Journal, Antropic is poised for a highly anticipated initial public offering, with market analysts predicting a staggering $100 billion in potential funding at a valuation of approximately $2 trillion.
