SpaceX's Starlink satellite communications venture has made significant strides in India. Establishing 20 key gateway sites and deploying hundreds of antennas across the country.

As the company gears up to launch its services in the region, it has implemented tailored security measures, designed in close collaboration with local authorities, to safeguard Indian users' data and ensure its storage within the country's borders.

Starlink has engaged in a five-year collaboration with Indian authorities and industry partners to harmonize its operations with the nation's regulations. The government has issued permits to three satellite communication firms, including Starlink, to provide services within the country.

"We've built our Starlink operations specifically for India in recognition of Indian security requirements and other regulations, establishing controls at every layer for India, and keeping Indian user data within India," Dreyer said.

Dreyer also pointed to the country's digital progress, saying, "What India has achieved digitally is extraordinary." At the event, she also outlined SpaceX's broader technology work, including the development of reusable Falcon 9 rockets, the next-generation Starship launch vehicle and plans to build AI computing capacity at large scale.

"With Falcon 9, reusable rockets at scale became reality, and we've baked all of that learning into the next generation Starship launch vehicle, which, of course, just reached orbit," she said.

SpaceX is also working on AI computing capacity on Earth and plans to build it in orbit in the future, Dreyer said. "With SpaceX AI, we're building AI compute at enormous scale, first here on Earth and in the future in orbit to fully harness the power of the sun…and Starlink is providing high-speed connectivity to places traditional infrastructure has been unable to reach and serve," she said.
