CM Vijay Brings Accountability to Governance with Breakfast Scheme Expansion

Chennai, September 22: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has won hearts across the state with his surprise visit to a government school. There, he served pongal to students and sat down with them for breakfast.

The CM's gesture, part of the expanded Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme, aims to provide nutritious meals to students in Classes VI to VIII.

As part of a broader initiative, the state has now extended its reach to over 15 million more students in 15,454 government and state-aided schools. This marked a substantial advancement in the health and wellbeing of its students. The state government has also increased its funding for the programme.

Adding ₹217.63 crore to its current budget, which now totals ₹724 crore.

The breakfast menu will include dishes such as upma, kichadi, and pongal, with millet-based dishes being served twice a week. The scheme will be implemented through integrated kitchens covering 447 government and aided schools in the Greater Chennai Corporation. With the Directorate of Municipal Administration overseeing the programme in other corporations and municipalities.

CM Vijay began his career as a child actor in 1984 and went on to become one of Tamil cinema's biggest stars. His political entry became official in February 2024. At that time, he launched the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and announced his intention to contest the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
