  • Mary Kom's ex-husband Onler Kom files defamation case against her.
  • Onler alleges Mary made damaging statements about him on TV and other platforms.
  • Next hearing scheduled for November 19, 2026.

Mary Kom, the Olympic medallist and six-time world champion boxer, is facing a criminal defamation case filed by her ex-husband Onler Kom. The case, filed under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alleges that Mary made disparaging and damaging statements about Onler on television and other public platforms.

Onler had been weighing his options for a potential lawsuit for months. This comes after Mary's scathing remarks on a television program and subsequent online appearances, which left him feeling disrespected and seeking redress. The allegations made by Mary against Onler.

This includes claims of financial misappropriation and exploitation, have sparked a heated debate in the public eye.

Onler, who is currently pursuing the matter, declined to comment on the allegations in detail, citing the ongoing legal proceedings. "I have a strong case. I have faith in the judicial system of India.

The matter is sub judice, so I won’t comment any further," he said.

Mary and Onler's love story began in 2000 in Delhi. At that time, Onler, who was a student at Delhi University's Law Faculty, helped Mary when she lost her luggage en route to a competition. They married in 2005, had twin sons in 2007, another son in 2013, and adopted a daughter in 2018.

Mary has levelled financial claims against Onler, alleging he misappropriated millions of rupees earned through her professional boxing career. However, Onler has consistently disputed these assertions, instead levelling accusations against Mary's conduct during their marriage. He had also challenged Mary to prove those allegations.

This sparks a public debate about the validity of the claims made by both parties.

Onler's decision to pursue the defamation case comes after months of considering legal action following Mary's comments on a television program and subsequent online appearances. If convicted, the punishment can extend to imprisonment of up to two years, a fine, or both.

The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for November 19, 2026. Mary is currently participating in a reality television show, Bigg Boss. The outcome of the case will have significant implications for both Mary and Onler.

And will set a precedent for defamation cases in India.

As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen how the Indian judicial system will handle the allegations made by both parties. The court will have to carefully consider the evidence presented and the implications of the case on the reputation of both Mary and Onler.
