The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a directive requiring Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to complete a range of courses as part of a broader effort to enhance the nation's law enforcement capabilities. These courses, which cover emerging technologies, evidence-based policymaking, and cybersecurity fundamentals, will be delivered through the iGOT Karmayogi platform.
All India Services officers are now required to complete these courses annually, with the aim of fostering continuous professional development and adaptability.
The iGOT Karmayogi platform is a digital learning hub catering to civil servants and government employees. Offering a comprehensive curriculum of 24 courses. The Ministry has curated these courses into four distinct categories, each comprising six modules, with the first three deemed essential.
These mandatory courses will be integrated into officers' annual performance appraisal reports. Serving as a critical component of a thorough evaluation process that will unfold only after completion of the required modules. Set to commence in the 2026-27 fiscal year.
Officers from the 2018 batch onwards will take an introduction to emerging technologies. As well as courses on search and seizure procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and cybersecurity fundamentals for leaders. The Wadhwani Foundation, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, and the National E-Governance Division of MeitY will offer these courses, respectively.
An overview of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita as it replaces the CrPC. And a foundational module on the interoperable criminal justice system, will be part of the curriculum. Officers will also take courses on managing and leading teams, noting and drafting, and mastering feedback.

Additionally, they will learn about evidence-based policymaking, cybersecurity fundamentals, the art of storytelling, and the use of ChatGPT and generative AI tools for government officials. Change management in digital transformation projects will also be covered.
Officers from the 2000 batch and all prior batches will take courses that overlap substantially with the preceding group. A new module on integrative wellness from Rashtriya Raksha University will be added to the curriculum for this group.
The iGOT Karmayogi platform will be used to assess the performance of IPS officers on these courses. The results will be reflected in their annual performance appraisal reports (APARs). The decision is aimed at enhancing the capacity of IPS officers to address emerging challenges in the field of cybersecurity and technology.
Furthermore, the platform will also enable the evaluation of officers' skills in areas such as digital literacy, data analysis, and problem-solving. This will help to identify areas where officers require additional training and support. Ultimately leading to a more effective and efficient law enforcement system.
The Ministry's efforts to enhance the capabilities of IPS officers come as the nation continues to grapple with the challenges of cybersecurity and technology. The iGOT Karmayogi platform is seen as a critical component of this effort. Providing a comprehensive and structured approach to training and development.
