Bihar is on the cusp of transforming its mineral economy. With geological investigations across Rohtas, Jamui, and Gaya identifying reserves valued at over Rs 21,000 crore. The state is now poised to reap the benefits of these discoveries.

With operationalising the reserves projected to generate annual mining revenue exceeding Rs 5,000 crore.

According to a senior mining department official, the assessed value and commercial potential of the discovered reserves are substantial. The state is now at a critical juncture, with the potential for commercial success from 2026-27.

Despite the breakthroughs, bringing these underground minerals to market is hindered by substantial infrastructure hurdles. The complex process of extracting potash from glauconite and vanadium from magnetite demands cutting-edge technologies that are still in the early stages of domestic development.

Former president of Bihar Industry Association KPS, Keshri noted. that the conversion of mines into revenue-generating industries will depend on the state government's ability to scale up the process. The government must establish an industry to support the discoveries and ensure their successful conversion.

Experts emphasize that the successful conversion of these mineral reserves into revenue-generating mines will require sustained investment and technological advancements. The state government must prioritize the development of infrastructure and industries to support the growth of the mineral economy.
