Bihar Police Arrest Four Suspects in Molestation Case

Four men have been arrested by the Samastipur Police in connection with a molestation case that has sparked outrage in the state. The incident occurred on a bypass road in Samastipur, where a girl was allegedly harassed by a group of youths.

A disturbing incident was reported in the area. There, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly harassed by three men while taking photos with a companion. The incident is said to have occurred on January 10, at a location where the girl had stopped to capture images.

Surveillance footage, purportedly shot at the scene, captures a young man holding the girl's hand, with another individual restraining her by the hair while a third attempts to take a photo as the girl struggles to free herself.

The incident is the latest in a series of alleged molestation cases in Bihar. Which have drawn widespread condemnation and calls for action from politicians and activists.

Police sources said that the girl appeared to be a minor, and her identity could not be established immediately. As a result, police registered an FIR on Thursday on the basis of a police officer’s statement. The four arrested men have been identified as Vikas Kumar.

Rahul Kumar, Ram Babu Sahni and Awadhesh Paswan, all residing under the local police station limits.

Sharing such content on social media in a manner that reveals the identity of a minor victim amounts to a cognisable offence under applicable law. And action will be taken on anyone found guilty, said the officer. The case is being investigated under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly and RJD national working president Tejashwi Yadav has taken on social media, calling the incident a "shameful" example of the BJP government's failure to protect the rights of women and children.

"This is a sensitive matter, and the police are conducting an inquiry," said Superintendent of Police Arvind Pratap Singh. "The incident appears to have taken place around a week ago."
