The MSCI emerging market index rebalancing process is a crucial event for investors, as it involves realigning portfolios at the closing price. The NSE release stated that "Index rebalancing days see heavy trading at the close, as index funds, exchange traded funds and other passive investors realign their portfolios at the closing price." This process often leads to increased market activity, particularly during the last half-hour of trading.
The apprehensions in the market about CAS's ability to handle large volumes were evident before the rebalancing event. The previous day, Thursday, saw significant volatility in the sensex and bankex indices on BSE, with each index swinging wildly However, despite these concerns, Monday's session remained smooth, with a market share of almost 100% for CAS on NSE.
According to the NSE release, Monday's CAS turnover was approximately 42 times the turnover recorded in the previous trading session. Furthermore, more than 98,000 unique investors participated in today's session, which is a testament to the growing interest and participation in CAS. The success of this session has paved the way for further growth and development of the platform.

Dr. Chitra Kunte, Executive Director at NSE, stated that "CAS accounted for 22% of the day's total cash market turnover on NSE, and more than 98,000 unique investors participated in today's session." This data highlights the significant impact of CAS on the overall market activity, particularly in terms of investor participation.
