I've spent the past week immersed in gaming sessions with Razer's latest pocket-sized mobile controller, the Prio. As someone who's notoriously particular about their mobile controllers, I was surprised to find myself enamored with this tiny titan.

The Prio's design is a masterclass in functionality and portability. When connected to a phone, it resembles a Nintendo Switch-style controller, but its unique foldable mechanism allows it to shrink down to half its size, protecting the buttons and joysticks in a way reminiscent of classic Game Boy or Nintendo DS designs.

Razer has long struggled with joysticks on their controllers, but the Prio's capacitive sensors have won me over. These "contactless" sensors deliver impressive precision, rivaling even the most robust gaming experiences on larger devices. I've never used a controller this size that worked so well for such a wide range of genres, from The Witcher 3 Remastered to Fortnite.

The face buttons are equally impressive, with an astonishing lack of noise even when button-mashing. They're also remarkably quiet and easy to press, making them a joy to use. The bumpers on the top of each side are simple standard buttons, while the triggers boast analog functionality with surprising travel – a boon for precision games like racing.

The Razer Prio's compact size belies its impressive capabilities. It fits comfortably in a pocket and weighs next to nothing in your hand, making it an ideal companion for long gaming sessions on-the-go. I was particularly impressed

One of the most ingenious features of the Prio is its innovative foldable design, which comes with three different sizes and shapes of rubber pads in the box to support a range of phone models. I tested this with a Dbrand Tank case on a Pixel 10 Pro and found it worked seamlessly once I removed the controller's rubber pads.

While there are some drawbacks – notably the lack of passthrough charging support and MagSafe battery integration – the Razer Prio is an incredibly impressive travel controller that has won me over. Its unique design, combined with exceptional performance and portability, make it a must-have for any serious gamer on-the-go.
