President Donald Trump has selected conservative commentator Katie Zacharia to serve as the new White House press secretary. Zacharia currently works as a communications adviser for Trump Media & Technology Group. She will become Trump's sixth chief spokesperson across his two presidential administrations.
Former press secretary Karoline Leavitt left the post in August to join Fox News. Trump called Leavitt one of his "most trusted aides" before her departure. In a social media statement on Friday, Trump praised Zacharia as loyal and dedicated.
He described her as "a devoted fan and member of MAGA" with "an unblemished record of support".
Zacharia responded to the announcement with gratitude in a post on X. She wrote that serving Trump and the American people is the honor of a lifetime. She said she looks forward "to working with the White House press corps, and with reporters across the country".

Zacharia will now manage daily media briefings and press inquiries at the White House.
The 42-year-old commentator has worked in Republican politics for years. In 2006, she interned for the Republican National Committee and the White House Office of Political Affairs. She later studied law at Pepperdine University in California.
In 2011, she spent nearly two years clerking at a law firm in Beijing, China.
She also served as general counsel for Fix California, an advocacy group started by Ric Grenell. Since June, she has advised Trump's media company and his Truth Social platform. Earlier this year, she worked briefly at the Department of Homeland Security.
Zacharia left Homeland Security after two months due to family travel demands between California and Washington.

Trump has emphasized personal loyalty across his second-term staff appointments. Political analyst Justin, Buchler noted. that Trump picks aides "based on personal affiliation and loyalty".
Buchler added that Trump "values loyalty first and foremost" when making top personnel choices.
University of Michigan professor Yanna, Krupnikov said. the choice shows shifting media approaches. Krupnikov noted that modern communications focus heavily on direct social messaging for ordinary voters.
Zacharia previously defended Trump policies and public events during regular cable news appearances. She described a televised UFC fight at the White House as a reflection of American determination. She also wrote a newspaper piece defending her choice to wear a Make America Great Again hat.
