Peruvian voters have elected Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores. A 45-year-old candidate, as the mayor of Queropalca, a remote district in the Peruvian Andes. The Ahora Nación party candidate secured 34% of the vote.

Beating his rival by just 25 votes in a contest with fewer than 1,000 participants.

Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores was born in the district in the central department of Huánuco, some 360km from the capital, Lima. He shares his name with Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, two of the most well-known figures of 20th-Century European totalitarian regimes.

"I'm the good Hitler," he said during his campaign, drawing attention to his unusual name.

Hitler Guesclin Alba Sánchez had been elected mayor of Yúngar in 2018. And Adolf Hitler Uunona won local elections in Namibia in 2020, also drawing international attention due to his name.

Peru's elections office data showed that Simeon secured around 34% of the vote. Meanwhile, the second-place candidate from right-wing Renovación Popular Perú received 9%.

Peru's elections office data also showed that 700 people participated in the election, with Simeon securing 25 votes ahead of his rival.

Global scrutiny has intensified around the town of Simeon. There, the coincidence of its namesake bearing the monikers of two infamous fascist leaders has catapulted the community into the international spotlight.

Peru's local elections have been marked by controversy. With some critics accusing the Ahora Nación party of using the candidate's name to draw attention to the party.

The Peruvian government has not commented on the election. However, officials have promised to ensure that the new mayor is sworn in and begins his term in office.
