Russian Helicopter Violates Polish Airspace for 42 Secs

Poland's air defence units are on high alert following a brief incursion of a Russian military helicopter into its airspace. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday morning, saw the Mi-8 aircraft penetrate Polish airspace for approximately 42 seconds before exiting.

According to radar tracking, the helicopter crossed from the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad and entered Polish airspace to a depth of about 300 metres. The Polish military has scrambled fighter jets in response to the incident, while ground forces remain on high alert.

Poland's air defence units are operating around the clock to ensure the safety of Polish airspace. The incident has raised concerns about Russia's intentions. With some speculating that the country may be testing the readiness of European air defences.

Polish Army Operational Command spokespersons have stated that the nature of the incident indicates Russia's continued interest in testing the commitment of European Nato members to supporting Ukraine. The official added that the safety of Polish airspace is the top priority.

European Nato members have been targeted by a spiralling campaign of sabotage and Russian drones have landed in several countries. The incident has sparked concerns about the potential for a wider conflict.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned that if Europe were to attack Russia, it would be a "completely different war" with a short duration. French President Emmanuel Macron has also spoken out about the intensified Russian hybrid threat against Europeans.

Ukraine has expressed concern about the potential for Russian aggression, with the country'It was foreign ministry stating that a Russian drone that hit a passenger train near the border with Poland on 13 September could have been the "diplomatic train". Earlier this month, Germany accused Russia of responsibility for an August drone attack at Leipzig airport, a claim denied by Moscow.

Lithuania's prime minister has also made evacuation plans in response to threats from Russia, but has vowed not to surrender if attacked. The incident has highlighted the ongoing tensions between Russia and European Nato members.
