Randeep Hooda Wins National Film Award for Best Debut Director for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar

Randeep Hooda was honoured with the National Film Award for Best Debut Director for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. A film he also directed and starred in. President Droupadi Murmu presented the award at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony in Kevadia, Gujarat, on Tuesday.

Speaking to us, Randeep Hooda reflects on the significance of this recognition, saying he is and always will be an actor first. Though he has not received much recognition as an actor in terms of awards, the audience has always generously showered him with immense deep love and admiration.

Having acted, directed, and co-written Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, Randeep Hooda notes that directing a film is the most demanding of the three. He credits writing as a liberating experience, as it is a limitless endeavour that allows for endless creative expression.

Sharing his thoughts on the new venue for the National Film Awards. Randeep Hooda notes that there must be a lot of fatigue from the usual Vigyan Bhavan ceremony for the authorities. He suggests that the shift to a new venue is a welcome change.
