A significant milestone was marked on Monday with the inauguration of a marble plaque at Nariman Point. Mumbai, in tribute to the founder of The Indian Express Group, Ramnath Goenka.
The event, held on the 35th death anniversary of the newspaper's founder, was attended by Bombay High Court judge Somasekhar Sundaresan and Anant Goenka, Executive Director, The Indian Express Group.
The plaque, measuring 8.5 feet in width and 12.5 feet in height, was constructed over a period of four months. According to urban planner Hardik Sankhe, who worked on the design, the intricate engravings were executed over a period of 25 days. The plaque rests on a platform, which elevates the total height of the structure to 14 feet.

The project was executed by contractor Aditya Interiors.
The plaque is installed on Ramnath Goenka Marg. A street that links Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan to the Vinay K Shah Road in Nariman Point. The road was named in honor of the newspaper's founder after former Mumbai mayor and senior Congress leader Ramcharitra Rambhajan Singh.
The naming of the road was approved by the BMC in 1993. And it was officially inaugurated as Freedom Fighter Ramnath Goenka Marg on November 25. 1995, by then Vice-President K R Narayanan, along with then Chief Minister Manohar Joshi and municipal commissioner JD Jadhav.
