Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for fighting off a co-pilot who allegedly attempted to crash a flydubai aircraft travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The aircraft, a Boeing 737 jet, landed safely at Tabuk Airport after the pilot's intervention.
According to the Prime Minister's office, Captain Machchhar showed "immense courage and an unwavering resolve to protect the lives of others" during the incident. The pilot, who has over 9,750 hours of flying experience, was taken to a hospital in Saudi Arabia after the aircraft landed.
Captain Machchhar, who began his flying career with SpiceJet in June 2011, was a senior commander and line training captain with Flydubai before the incident. The airline's, spokesperson said. that the aircraft was successfully secured by on-duty flydubai crew.
