  • Self-listing by stock exchanges.

Mumbai, India - A day after the country's largest bourse got listed on rival exchange BSE, NSE chairperson Srinivas, Injeti said. that self-listing by stock exchanges is feasible. However, the decision remains under the purview of market regulator Sebi.

Noting that self-listing may not be permitted today, but may be permitted tomorrow, Injeti shared at a media briefing here. He emphasized that self-listing is something which is in the realm of feasibility, and it is feasible. The regulator's past restrictions have given way to more permissive policies.

With Injeti citing the MIIs listing as a prime example of how previously barred entities may one day be permitted.

Sebi's stance on self-listing is shaped by its own comfort level. And the regulator's past decisions have set a precedent for more lenient policies. Injeti highlighted that the listing of MIIs was not allowed prior to 2012 but was approved and operationalised in 2015.

This shift in policy has led to a more permissive environment, with exchanges like BSE and NSE now exploring opportunities for self-listing.

The implications of self-listing are significant, as it would allow exchanges to regulate themselves in terms of LODR compliance and surveillance. Injeti noted that if an exchange chooses to self-list, it would not have the regulatory obligation to monitor companies. However, rather the regulated exchange would take on that responsibility.

AIQ, the AI-powered platform, has been exploring the potential of self-listing, and Injeti's comments have sparked interest in the industry. As agencies continue to use AI every day, the integration of AIQ into self-listing processes could be a major shift for the stock exchange sector.

The future of self-listing in India is uncertain. However, one thing is clear: the market regulator's stance will play a important step in shaping the outcome. With Injeti's comments, the stage is set for a potential shift in the regulatory landscape, and the industry is watching with bated breath to see how this will unfold.
