According to the Code on Social Security 2020. Employees whose statutory wages fall within the revised ceiling of Rs 25,000 will now be eligible for mandatory provident fund coverage. This change affects three key social security benefits: Employees' Provident Fund, Employees' Pension Scheme, and Employees' Deposit-Linked Insurance Scheme.
Employees whose monthly wages exceed Rs 25,000 will see an increase in their provident fund contributions. Provided their previous PF contributions were restricted to the earlier statutory ceiling of Rs 15,000. For these employees, PF contributions will be calculated on the revised ceiling of Rs 25,000 or on their actual wages, whichever is lower.

Employees already contributing on wages above Rs 25,000 will not experience an increase in their total monthly provident fund contributions. However, the internal allocation of the employer's contribution between provident fund and pension may undergo a change.
The revised wage ceiling also affects pension coverage. With employees earning statutory wages above Rs 15,000 but up to Rs 25,000 now eligible for pension coverage. If they were not already members under the Pension Scheme.
The maximum monthly amount allocated to the Pension Scheme can increase from Rs 1,250 to Rs 2,083. Which may impact existing pension members whose wages exceed Rs 25,000.
Employees are advised to review their salary slips and provident fund passbooks to comprehend the implications of this change. This includes PF and pension membership status, employee's PF deduction, employer's total contribution, and wages used for calculating contributions.
