Key Highlights

  • Hanuman Ansh has crossed ₹423 crore worldwide, according to Sacnilk.
  • Richa Chadha believes it may be too early to conclude that the Indian film industry is witnessing a wider shift in audience preferences.
  • Better scripts and money for writers could lead to content-driven cinema taking the lead, according to Richa Chadha.

Richa Chadha, the lead actor in the devotional drama Hanuman Ansh, has offered insights into the film's remarkable commercial performance. Released in 2026, the movie, inspired by the life and teachings of Neem Karoli Baba, has defied expectations, raking in over ₹423 crore in worldwide revenue, according to Sacnilk.

While Chadha acknowledges the film's impressive success, she cautions that it may be premature to assume a broader cultural shift in Indian cinema, at least based on Hanuman Ansh's remarkable debut.

Chadha notes that the success of Hanuman Ansh should be evaluated in the context of the film's genre and the broader industry landscape. She also emphasizes the importance of considering the performance of other films in the same genre. Such as Hollywood productions and mythological films, which tend to perform well.

Chadha cautions that it is too early to say whether there is a significant shift in audience preferences. As audiences are naturally drawn to such content.

The film, made on a budget of around ₹2 crore, has continued to record steady collections despite major releases such as The Paradise, The Vvaan - Force of the Forest, and Drishyam 3 arriving in theatres. As of October 5, the film has achieved ₹300 crore in India and ₹400 crore worldwide within eight weeks of its theatrical run.

Richa Chadha's recent project, Musafiri, is an eight-episode series available on Phull Stop, the new YouTube channel launched by the actor couple. The idea for Musafiri took shape during Richa's journey into motherhood. And the series brings together travel, personal experiences, and the couple's interest in exploring their city.

Chadha suggests that reports indicating better scripts and increased financial support for writers could lead to a surge in content-driven cinema. This highlights the need for better scripts and financial support for writers to drive the industry forward.
